Puzzling Can Help Boost Wellbeing in Public Libraries

Clue Detective is of the firm belief that puzzling can help boost wellbeing. It stands committed to help public libraries actively respond to the mental health issues left in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is vital for people to remain connected, especially in times of isolation and lockdown, while remaining safe in their homes. One of the best things to do if a person is feeling anxious is to find a way to engage their brain. Puzzles are perfect because they provide a diversion, allowing the puzzler to focus on something other than the ‘main problem’; even if it is only for a little while.

How libraries can help boost patrons’ wellbeing with a puzzle

Libraries are in the box seat to help their users cope with these trying and challenging times. One way they can assist is by offering Clue Detective (individual or group) puzzling sessions, which are absorbing, educational and entertaining. They can be conducted via such platforms as Zoom to ensure a COVID safe environment.

A Clue Detective puzzle subscription is an interactive tool for libraries to engage with their patrons and communities, particularly where it concerns (mental) health and wellbeing.    Puzzles include crosswords, codewords, sudoku, cryptograms and more. New materials are added on a regular basis. When a library subscribes, all their members have full, automatic access from wherever they are; all they need is their library card. Patrons connect to the puzzles via EZProxy/barcode recognition.

Clue Detective’s plan for 2022 is to engage with libraries to help them develop health and wellbeing-related (inter-library) puzzling activities, which will in turn help mental health and wellbeing, encourage patrons’ usage of library services and instil lifelong learning.  We would be pleased to offer your library a free trial of the puzzle portal.
